Terms of service

Last updated August 16, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of thanko (the "Service"), operated by thanko ["Legal Entity Name"] ("thanko", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you're accepting on behalf of an organization, you're confirming you have authority to bind that organization.

1. The service

thanko lets an organization's employees give each other recognition ("kudos"), which convert into points. Points can be redeemed at participating British Columbia businesses ("reward partners") for goods or services those partners offer.

2. Accounts

  • Employee accounts are created by, or at the invitation of, an organization admin. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.
  • Organization admins are responsible for the accuracy of the roster, role assignments, and points budget they configure, and for removing employees who leave the organization.
  • You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

3. Points are not currency

  • Points have no cash value, cannot be purchased, transferred between accounts, or redeemed for cash.
  • Points are issued at your organization's discretion, funded by your organization's plan, and may expire or be forfeited if your account is removed from the organization or the organization's plan ends.
  • thanko is not a bank, money transmitter, or gift card issuer — points are an internal recognition mechanic, not a financial instrument.

4. Redemptions

  • Redemption offers are set by each reward partner and may change or be withdrawn at any time.
  • Once a redemption is confirmed, thanko coordinates fulfillment with the reward partner, but the underlying good or service is provided by that partner, not by thanko.
  • thanko isn't responsible for a reward partner's product quality, availability, or conduct, though we'll help resolve issues where we reasonably can.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or send content that isn't genuine workplace recognition.
  • Attempt to manipulate the points system (e.g. fake kudos, exploit bugs) to inflate balances.
  • Access accounts or organization data you're not authorized to access.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service's operation or security.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

6. Organization plans and billing

Small-business organizations pay a monthly rate per employee as described on our pricing page. Verified British Columbia non-profits use thanko at no cost, subject to our verification process. We'll give reasonable notice before any pricing changes take effect for an existing organization.

7. Reward partners

If you sign thanko up as a reward partner, you're agreeing to honour redemptions made in good faith through the Service according to the offer terms you set, and to provide accurate information about your business and offers.

8. Intellectual property

thanko and its licensors own the Service, including its software, design, and branding. You retain ownership of the content you post (like kudos messages), and grant us a licence to host and display it within the Service as intended (e.g. to your teammates).

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular reward partner offer will remain available.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, thanko isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount your organization paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose (or $100 CAD if nothing was paid).

11. Termination

You or your organization may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or if we discontinue the Service, with reasonable notice where practical.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify organization admins by email. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in it, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
